A Word from Our President…

We had a great start to our new season with Pat Shutterly’s presentation, “What is Money Laundering? And Why Should I Care?” It was an eye-opening presentation on who is hiding what, the number of parties assisting this criminal activity, and the overall impact on our society. It just shows that plenty is happening in dark corners, and it takes people like Pat to shine a light on it.

Our October presentation by Bob Spitzer titled “Is the President’s War Power a Fiction?” is a timely presentation given the ongoing military operations related to Iran and the region. What is the role of the President versus the Congress in a time of rising hostilities? Plan on an evening full of constitutional questions as we learn more about this topic.

In terms of our Membership Committee, I am happy to note that the board approved the membership application of Deborah Feingold. Barney Feingold has also renewed his membership for our upcoming season. Please welcome our new and returning members at this month’s dinner.

The Programs Committee has been busy finalizing additional presentations for calendar year 2027. Please visit the website for the full list of presentations already scheduled through March 2027. Again, new ideas are always welcome, so please contact Kathi Mestayer or Lois Manes if you have any ideas for future presentations.

As before, I just want to highlight that the club could benefit from additional volunteers to assist the Membership and Programs Committees. It is a way to get more involved in what we do as a club. We also need dinner greeters for the new season. Greeters help keep track of the members and visitors as they arrive.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, October 20th. Please be sure to let me know by noon on Friday, October 16th if you and your guests plan to attend.
