Dreary weather did not deter the Torch Club members and guests who gathered last week to tour Williamsburg’s newest attraction – the Colin G. and Nancy N. Campbell Archaeology Center.
A total of 32 individuals attended the event, coming from five area Torch Clubs to share an evening together that started with a tour of the new archaeology center and ended with friendly discussions a a local pizzeria. It was a perfect way to spend a summer evening.
Opening for the first time on April 25th, the 40,000-square-foot center does its best to display what it can from among its collection of 60 million artifacts. Fortunately, attendees were guided through the collection by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation’s Senior Archaeologist Meredith Poole, who is a 40-year-veteran of the ongoing archaeological studies of the Colonial Williamsburg restored area.
Kudos go to the efforts of Torch Club of Williamsburg’s Peter Mellette. He organized the entire event and ensured everyone had a good evening.
This summer event represented the very best of what one can expect from a Torch Club – the presentation of new information followed by vibrant Q&As, and then an enjoyable dinner with friends. It works on the local, regional, and national level.
