A Word from Our President…
Greetings to everyone during this period of warming weather. The tulips are popping up and the start of spring is little more than a week away.
I want to thank Lynn Bernard for her presentation at our February dinner titled “A Cup of Joe by Any Other Name: The History of Coffee.” We all learned a little more about our morning beverage and I walked away with a few coffee candies in my pocket as well.
We have had a change of plans for our March dinner. We had a scheduling issue related to the Muscarelle Museum presentation, so instead our very own John Delano will present on “Window Glass: The Rodney Dangerfield of Archaeological Artifacts.” John will discuss the origins of colonial glass in our area, discussing the importation and manufacturing of glass, and also noting how this material can provide details on ages of archaeological sites as well as the social status of the colonists. It should be an enlightening presentation on another everyday item that we take for granted.
In terms of our Membership Committee, I am happy to note that the board approved two new members at our last meeting – Ken Blakely and Janice Hathaway. Please welcome our newest members at this month’s dinner.
In addition, at the upcoming dinner Mike Mason will discuss the final results of the satisfaction surveys. I want to thank everyone who shared comments about our venue and program. It is important to get this feedback from time to time. Please contact Mike Mason or Camilla Buchanan with any questions.
The Programs Committee has been busy ensuring we had a new speaker for our March dinner as well as finalizing some details on future speakers. Please contact Kathi Mestayer or Lois Manes if you have any other presentation ideas for future presentations.
The board has also approved the members of a Nominating Committee for the election of officers and two board members. Mike Mason and Steven Berke have agreed to take on this role. We are hoping to add a non-board member shortly so we have three members on this committee. Please give some consideration to serving as an officer or board member. The Nominating Committee would like to hear from you.
As before, I just want to highlight that we need dinner greeters. Please consider becoming a greeter for an upcoming dinner. You get to be the first to say hi to our arriving members and guests.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, March 17th. It will be St. Patrick’s Day, so feel free to dress in GREEN. Also, please be sure to let Denise know by noon on Friday, March 13th if you and your guests plan to attend. This dinner count assists Colonial Heritage Club with its dinner planning.
