A Word from Our President

I hope everyone has persevered in this cold weather. It was nice to celebrate winter at the December dinner, but this is getting ridiculous. The dinner to celebrate spring cannot come soon enough.

Our January dinner with Dan Sherman’s presentation on “Hamilton: Man and Musical” was certainly a fun evening. You may remember learning about Alexander Hamilton in elementary school, but did it come with singing?

Torch Club member Lynn Bernard will give our February dinner presentation titled “A Cup of Joe by Any Other Name: The History of Coffee.” After dinner, plan on grabbing your coffee with dessert and then be prepared to learn something about what you are drinking. I should also add that the theme of the February dinner will be Mardi Gras, so bring some beads or a mask if you are so inclined.

At the last dinner, the Membership Committee handed out member satisfaction surveys. Mike Mason also emailed copies of the survey to those who could not attend. Please complete the survey if you have yet to do so and mail it back to Mike (if you received an envelope), email it back, or bring it to the February dinner. As noted earlier, the survey is a way to ensure the club is meeting everyone’s needs. Contact Mike Mason or Camilla Buchanan with any questions.

The Programs Committee is in the process of finalizing the list of presentations through December. We will post the updated schedule to the website shortly. Please contact Kathi Mestayer or Lois Manes if you have any other presentation ideas for the rest of the 2026/2027 season (that is, January to May 2027).

One more thing. We need dinner greeters. Please consider becoming a greeter for an upcoming dinner. The greeter welcomes everyone and keeps a tab on attendance. Our treasurer Peter Mellette will be there to deal with the incoming dinner payments, so you can focus on greeting. It’s also a great way to learn more about your fellow members.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, February 17th. Please be sure to let Denise know by noon on Friday, February 13th if you and your guests plan to attend. This dinner count assists Colonial Heritage Club with its dinner planning.
