A Word from Our President

I wish everyone a very Happy 2026! We finished 2025 with a terrific presentation by Camilla Buchanan and Deb Hill at our December dinner on “Adventures Biking Around the World.” It was a great tale of numerous tandem bike tours from one end of the country to the other, with plenty of time to meet new people, enjoy the unique character of each state, and even talk with a few cows.

The December dinner was made all the more enjoyable by all the guests and colorful winter decorations that filled the room. Thanks again to all of those who assisted with the decorations, including at least one of our guests who was happily recruited to help.

At our January dinner we will have another entertaining presentation by Dan Sherman titled “Hamilton: Man and Musical.” It will be a chance to understand Alexander Hamilton in his historical role as well as his portrayal in a Broadway musical. Be ready for a multimedia presentation that may have you singing.

The Membership Committee is finalizing a satisfaction survey for the Committee to learn more about your opinion on our venue, dinners, and presentations. It is a way to ensure the club is meeting everyone’s needs. We will have more on this shortly. In addition, if you have any ideas for future presentations, please share them with the Programs Committee, which is putting together our program for the 2026/2027 season. We will have a sheet at the dinner to capture your presentation ideas. Please consider joining either the Membership Committee (contact Mike Mason or Camilla Buchanan) or Programs Committee (contact Kathi Mestayer or Lois Manes) if you would like to be more involved in this work.

One final note. Peter Mellette and I had a chance to meet with the Richmond Torch Club leadership to discuss a variety of topics, which included fun program ideas for current members and outreach for new members. It was a productive discussion. For instance, we discussed the idea of a joint dinner between our two clubs at some point in the future. This would be a good way to learn more about a neighboring club while sharing a dinner and presentation. It is one of many ideas the Board will consider going forward.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, January 20th, and please be sure to let Denise know by noon on Friday, January 16th if you and your guests plan to attend. This dinner count assists Colonial Heritage Club with its dinner planning.
