A Word from Our President

It seems winter has arrived a little early this year. It was just enough snow to remind us of the coming season, officially starting later this month. We had only one close call last year with snow during a Torch Club dinner, so I hope we have even better luck this year with clear roads on Tuesdays.

Our November dinner was a great success with David Tetrault’s presentation on “Life with the Circus,” which was both entertaining and eye-opening. His 15 years as a minister with the circus gave him insights that those of us in the audience would never know. Whether he was discussing the day-to-day risks or the dedication of the performers, he made it all come to life. The circus is a way of life that few will experience.

At this month’s dinner we will have another fun presentation by Camilla Buchanan and Deb Hill on “Adventures Biking Around the World.” It should be an evening of tales that may encourage you to dust off your own bike and take to the road, or at least to the neighborhood streets.

The Membership Committee reminds everyone to mention our upcoming dinners to friends and family. While we continue to advertise our dinners to the public, a simple invitation to someone you know is often the easiest way to spread the word about our dinners. In addition, if you have any ideas for future presentations, please share them with the Programs Committee. We will have a sheet on each table for your ideas. Finally, the invitation remains open to all members to join either the Membership Committee (contact Mike Mason or Camilla Buchanan) or Programs Committee (contact Kathi Mestayer or Lois Manes) if you would like to be more involved in this work.

One more thing – Stroll magazine recently had an article on the Torch Club of Williamsburg. The story discussed the history of the Torch Club, highlighted the activities of our local club, and provided contact information for those who want to learn more. It even had a few photos from our October dinner. A copy of the article will be shared at the upcoming dinner.

We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday, December 16th, and please be sure to let Denise know by noon on Friday, December 12th if you and your guests plan to attend. Having a dinner count assists Colonial Heritage Club with dinner planning.
