A Word from President Peter Mellette

February celebrates many events – not the least of which is love. Barnet Feingold knows something about love from his work as a clinical psychologist. He plans to share his thoughts on the structure of love and what makes a loving relationship based on his advice and personal experience. Barney’s musings are both timely and not to be missed. Be sure to join us on Tuesday, February 18th.

Last month Susan Dippre spoke on garden design and what works best for successful pollination and thriving gardens. Susan shared her years of experience in design, including her past work with Colonial Williamsburg, and the hard work of our pollinators for those in attendance.

Thanks to everyone for your continued interest in Torch! I have enjoyed getting to know so many interesting people in the Williamsburg area since we were chartered in June 2023. The Torch Club of Williamsburg is for you – it is dedicated to lifelong learning and to building new connections to information and interesting people in our community.

Your Board continues to work hard on putting together fun and interesting meetings. We plan to meet between now and the February 18th meeting to discuss programs for next fall and the appointment of a nominating committee for the upcoming year. Please let me know if you are interested in serving as a Board member or officer.

Speaking of the Board, we could use two more good people right now. The job is not time consuming (1 extra monthly meeting) and it keeps the Torch alive in Williamsburg. Please consider being a Board member, if not now, then when we elect new Board members later in the Spring.

Membership growth continues to be a focus for our club. Please be sure to invite guests to the upcoming meetings. Ask Camilla Buchanan for her ideas and assistance on making your guests welcome.

The Program Committee continues to plan informative and engaging topics for each meeting. The talks ahead range from government oversight, to space exploration, to spiritual women and to what love is this month. We welcome your recommendations and invite your participation as we schedule meetings for 2025-2026. See Kathi Mestayer and Lois Manes if you have an idea for a program or fill out the list on the table in February.

We look forward to seeing you in February! See you on February 18th and please be sure to let Denise know by noon on Friday, February 14th if you and your guests plan to attend. We need to let Colonial Heritage know in advance so that they will have enough place settings and food for the meals.
