Williamsburg Torch Club members attending their November dinner experienced a fascinating presentation on “The Bray School Story” by William and Mary Professor Emeritus Terry Meyers. The Williamsburg school instructed over 300 enslaved and free Black students from 1760 to 1774.
If you missed the presentation or simply want to learn more, you can go to this Colonial Williamsburg link with more information about the school itself as well as the process to restore the original structure.
You can also read Professor Emeritus Terry Meyers’ own story associated with the rediscovery of the Bray School.
