The October dinner of the Williamsburg Torch Club earlier this month benefited from a timely presentation on the “2024 Presidential Election” by SUNY-Courtland professor emeritus Robert Spitzer.

The discussion covered a number of election topics, including polarization, the siloing of present day news, and the close outcomes of recent races. All of this has added more anxiety to the presidential selection process.

Professor Spitzer also walked club members through the various biases of Democrats and Republicans, demonstrating how the siloing of news has helped to create a misalignment of facts among supporters of each party.

The presentation ended with a discussion of recent developments in the presidential race. This is something that is hard to miss even in the State of Virginia , which is not one of the swing states in 2024.

Overall, it was an informative evening. Should you want to read more on political topics, you can always pick up one of Professor Spitzer’s books, such as Essentials of American Politics (see below).
