The Williamsburg Torch Club’s new season started well with Nicholas Luccketti’s presentation on “The Search for Sir Walter Raleigh’s Lost Colony.” Nicholas M. Luccketti is the Vice President for Research at The First Colony Foundation, which is an organization focused on archaeology and education relating to the story of America’s beginnings with the attempts by Sir Walter Raleigh to establish English colonies at Roanoke Island in the 1580s under his charter from Queen Elizabeth I.

Mr. Luccketti’s presentation discussed several sites that have been uncovered over the years in an attempt to better understand these early English colonies. He made it clear that progress is being made, but much of the story still needs to be discovered.

You can learn more about the progress of these archaeologists by visiting The First Colony Foundation’s website where you can find the latest news and an archaeology page.

In addition, you can find Lost Colony information in various books, including the 2023 book Excavating The Lost Colony Mystery: The Map, the Search, the Discovery.
